Giving kids choice

Image
Kids are fickle.  One day they love dinosaurs, the next day they are playing football or butterfly spotting. So we make sure each Krafty Cap comes with a choice of 3 patches that the wearer can swap depending on that day’s preference. We have patches that may be considered more for boys or for girls but there is no predetermined set of patches to match each cap colour. We have designed our range of Krafty Caps to allow children to choose their cap colour and patches regardless of their gender. Shops so often have pink unicorns for girls and blue cars for boys; but as we watched our children grow and explore the world we realised that gender does not automatically determine your interests or favourite colour.  We are proud to have created a gender neutral product. Nothing makes me more excited than getting an order that I cannot guess whether it will be for a girl or a boy. I know then that it will be something special that the recipient wouldn’t be able to get elsewhere.

Finding the perfect children’s gift

I am so lucky and proud to have 5 nieces, 3 nephews and 2 godchildren. However, that means I need to pick at least 10 thoughtful birthday presents every year! When I choose a gift for a child I am mindful of 3 things: The recipient will actually use it The gift has longevity The parent will be pleased too So I have 3 main gift areas that I tend to choose from; books, games and clothes. I often default to books, or book vouchers, as gifts. I love reading and children’s books are wonderful. I am always mesmerised by the illustrations, rhymes, descriptions and imaginative stories. For younger children I highly recommend the ‘ Oi… ’ range of books by Kes Gray and Jim Field. Another story that has been well-loved by my sons is ‘ The Book With No Pictures ’ by B.J. Novak.  In our house, we are serious boardgame players. Alongside the ‘big’ names of Monopoly and Scrabble we have also fallen in love with Cranium, Ticket to Ride, Azul and Yahtzee. Top Trump cards have also been very handy for p

Krafty Cap patches: reusable, swappable, ungendered

Increasingly we are becoming aware of the longevity of items that we purchase. There is a backlash against ‘fast fashion’ and our Krafty Caps fit perfectly with this trend. Initially, each cap comes with your choice of 3 patches. So one cap gives you 3 looks.  The patches are attached to the cap using a microfine hook and loop fastening. They are simple to swap over, yet held securely so there are no worries about patches coming unstuck as your child explores. The Krafty Cap also features an easily adjustable strap at the back so that the cap can grow with your child. We recommend that the cap can fit children from 2-7 years of age, however my eldest son is almost 9 and it just about fits him. We love that our Krafty Caps also allow children to choose a hat that is ungendered. A blue cap can have a unicorn or butterfly and a pink cap can display a rocket or football. The ability to swap patches also means that the same cap can be used as your child’s interests change. One day a dino

How to persuade kids to wear a hat... without resorting to bribery or superglue!

Image
As parents we have been through the battle of ensuring that our children put a hat on when the sun is shining. It can be tireless but here are our tips for getting your child’s hat to stay put, without using an adhesive! Reminders and repetition - Every time your child goes outside in the sunshine remind them to put their hat on. And every time they then take it off, remind them that the hat needs to stay put. Children learn through repetition and when wearing a hat becomes a habit then the battle is won. Make sure their hat is easy to find and reachable so that there can be no excuses. Be a role model- Our children are natural mimics and when they see that their grown up is wearing a hat then it will make perfect sense for them to follow suit. There are plenty of hat styles to suit everyone, so pick one that you like and remember to wear it. You can also point out favourite characters that are wearing hats, from Postman Pat to the characters of Paw Patrol; there are plenty of opportun

Krafty Caps Inspiration

When my eldest son was a toddler we bought for him the softest cap with a simple initial on the front. It was well-used and well-loved and when my second son was born I couldn’t find anything similar for him. So, as a starting point in our quest for recreating a kid-friendly cap, our Krafty Caps have been made with the softest brushed cotton that we could source. The back of the Krafty Cap has a soft hook and loop fastening to ensure a good fit as children grow. And instead of simply an initial on the front we have designed the cap to be updated with a range of patches reflecting popular childhood interests. As children explore the world and discover new ‘favourite’ interests their Krafty Cap can reflect this. I know that my boys have gone through cars, dinosaurs, space and now, as they are at school, they have found football! The Krafty Cap embraces the changing interests that young children have. We are really pleased with the final product that we have created. It is soft and comfor
